Mental health focus

The theme of the 2004 ADF National Mental Health Conference will be “Alcohol, Drug and Suicide Prevention Management in the ADF – The Way Forward”.

Commanders and mental health providers will hear international speakers discuss current research and practice as well as to learn about the programs that are being established to enhance mental health policy and services in the ADF.

The conference will be held at Rydges Lakeside Hotel in Canberra on May 19-20. Personnel interested in attending should email john.ashley@defence.gov.au.

Stories sought

CONTRIBUTIONS are being sought for the 2004 Air Force Annual.

The theme for this year is “A Day in Our Life: Past and Present – RAAF Recollections”.

It will focus on specific days within each era of our history, including the First and Second World Wars, Korea and Vietnam to the present.

Stories of around 500 words with accompanying photographs are required by May 31.

MS charity ride

MULTIPLE Sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects thousands of Australians.

A disease of the central nervous system, it has no known cause or cure.

To raise funds for research and to increase awareness of the disease, the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society of Queensland invites ADF personnel in the Brisbane region to take part in the annual MS Brissie to the Bay Bike Ride on May 30.

Motorcycle course

THE ADF Motorcycle Association (ADFMA) will hold an off-road training and safety course at the Louee Riding complex near Mudgee, NSW, from May 2-8.

The course consists of four days of tuition and an assessment day. It aims to improve riders’ abilities, safety awareness, defensive riding skills, obstacle negotiation and knowledge for off-road motorcycle commuting and riding.

CDF Scholarship

NOMINATIONS for the 2005 CDF Scholarship close on April 30.

The award is given to one ADF member each year for postgraduate study at the University College.

Applicants must satisfy selection criteria detailed in DI (G) PERS 05-28, CDF Scholarship.
