Teams to focus on our future

By WGCDR Greg Taylor

ARE you ready for the future?

We often get bogged down in managing day-to-day crises and we forget to look ahead.

Air Force has taken the initiative in helping people not only think about their future, but contribute to the future through Leading Edge Teams (LETs).

The closing date for applications to join one of the teams is April 2.

The teams will meet in Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane and will allow airmen, airwomen and offi cers to have their say about our future capability, according to Air Commodore Chris Deeble, Director General Aerospace Development.

“It’s not about us educating people on our future as much as our people educating Air Force about the ways we can prepare for our future,” AIRCDRE Deeble said.

The teams will meet in a three-day workshop to look at what we know about the future and the implications.

Their output will help inform policy, doctrine and capability decisions.

Examples of future developments for the ADF are:

  • By 2020 command centre staff are expected to interact with databases through panels of virtual advisers, exploring and experiencing the battlespace through virtual interaction and videos.

  • Research into things such as insects will enhance the ability for unmanned aircraft to land and take off without assistance.
