RAAF Base Townsville is the first ADF site to receive certification for environmental management to the International Best Practice Standard for Environmental Management.

The certification covers the base’s environmental management system (EMS) and was recommended following an independent audit.

The EMS will help deliver significant improvements in environmental management for RAAF Base Townsville in areas such as: soil quality control and monitoring; natural resource consumption and greenhouse gas emission monitoring; water quality; biodiversity protection; landscape conservation; and protection and conservation of historically significant and heritage listed buildings.

The EMS will also heighten environmental awareness and practices by base personnel.
