Take steps to report faults

AIR Force Headquarters has been advised of instances where requests have been made for special measure combat boots resulting from medical and fitting problems with the Terra combat boot.

Despite these requests no Air Force units have reported any design problems with the boots or any other items of combat clothing and related equipment.

Reports should be forwarded under the Report On Defective or Unsatisfactory Material (RODUM) system if items:

  • impact on safety or health;
  • have faulty design, material or workmanship;
  • are assessed inadequate for the intended purpose;
  • are unreliable or have repetitive minor faults;
  • affect operational performance;
  • are difficult to operate or maintain;
  • have poor operator or technical manuals; and
  • are “unsatisfactory” in certain circumstances.

The RODUM system is the most effective method of communication to quickly resolve design and fitting concerns. All users of combat clothing and equipment are encouraged to use it.

Full details may be found at http://vbmweb.sor.defence.gov.au/rodum/

The site includes access to the electronic submission forms and RODUM database.
