A TEAM from RAAF Base Edinburgh have flattened their competition during a pancake-tossing relay in Adelaide.

The five Air Force members took on the Adelaide Metropolitan Fire Service in a deliciously entertaining challenge.

It was all part of Pancake Day, a national community event run by the Uniting Church of South Australia to celebrate Shrove Tuesday on February 24.

The tradition dates back to 1445 when a woman, after hearing the church bell ring, ran to the church still holding a frying pan full of pancakes.

The fun charity event involved the cooking, selling and flipping of pancakes by representatives of more than 200 schools, churches, businesses and social groups from around Adelaide.

Uniting Care more than trebled the amount of money raised last year, and will use all donations on local Uniting Care community projects.
