No. 1 Air Terminal Squadron members Corporal Dave Neilson, Corporal Stuart Leonard, Leading Aircraftman Nathan Pearse, Leading Aircraftman Aaron Nelder and Sergeant Pat Hines donned Santa hats and Hawaiian shirts to unload the final C-130 sustainment flight for 2003 at Henderson Airfield, Honiara, just before Christmas, much to the mirth of the crew and passengers. The load included parts to repair one of the Caribous of No. 38 Squadron and, more importantly for most, the Christmas mail. Flying Officer Matthew Cocker (right) receives his Queen’s Gold Medal for Leadership from Air Commodore Steven Walker, Commander Northern Command, at a special ceremony at HQNORCOM. FLGOFF Cocker, the Security Officer at HQNORCOM in Darwin, earned the medal as a student at the RAAF Officers’ Training School (OTS) in 2002. He had previously been presented with the ADI Leadership Sword for the same course. The ADI Leadership Sword and the Queen’s Medal are granted to the best overall OTS students in a calendar year. In a promotion ceremony at the ADF Warfare Centre the Commandant, Air Commodore Dennis Green (centre), recognised the dedication of the unit’s clerical support staff, (from left) Sergeant Sharene Kropman, Sergeant Brenda Beard, Flight Sergeant Craig Sippitts and Flying Officer Leann McKeown. Previously a Sergeant, FLGOFF McKeown has proceeded on Officer Training Course. FSGT Craig Sippitts was promoted from Sergeant and posted to Vanuatu as the Defence Attache Assistant. SGT Kropman has been promoted to temporary rank and posted to No. 77 Squadron. SGT Beard has been posted into the unit and promoted from Corporal. Also promoted but not available for the photo was Leading Aircraftwoman Jess Carr, now a Corporal in Canberra. Among the fond memories for the team was organising a dining-in night with the assistance of Airfield Defence Guards at BIAP.

SGT Ide also received the Police Medal for 30 years’ service with NSW Police at the award ceremony in Queanbeyan.
