By
CAPT Phil Pyke
CORPORAL Felicity Tewson, of No. 29 (City of Hobart) Squadron, has
been recognised with an inaugural award presented in Hobart.
The Reginald Llewellyn Trophy is awarded to the States top
Air Force Reservist and sponsored by the Claremont RSL.
CPL Tewson transferred to the Reserves nearly three years ago after
15 years full-time service. Her role covers driving and equipment
movement tasks.
I am pretty honoured and very flattered to receive the award,
she said.
It was a surprise as I didnt know that I had been nominated.
During the presentation, 29SQN CO Wing Commander Geoff OHara
commended CPL Tewson on her dedication and outstanding commitment
to the Air Force Reserves and the Squadron.
The trophy is a tribute to RAF pilot Reginald Llewellyn, a past
patron and president of the Claremont RSL.
He enlisted in the RAF in 1933, fought in the Battle of Britain
and other theatres during World War II and was awarded the DFC and
the DFM. Reg Llewellyn left the RAF in 1957 and emigrated to Australia
in 1985 where he became a member of the Claremont RSL. He died in
August 2000.
CPL Tewson realises the historical significance of the trophy.
For me this award is very special as my grandfather also flew
with the RAF and fought in World War II, she said.
She is studying nursing at the University of Tasmania. She graduates
next year and will take up a position at the North West Regional
Hospital.
