Wedgetail powers ahead

PROJECT Wedgetail has enjoyed successful tests of its power distribution system and its control software has received international recognition.

The first of Australia’s fleet of four AEW&C aircraft was powered up at Boeing’s Integrated Defence Systems in Seattle last month, several months ahead of schedule.

In addition, the project’s AEW&C system was recognised with a Practical Software and Systems Measurements (PSM) award at the seventh annual PSM users conference in Colorado.

The award recognises the outstanding effort taken in implementing PSM.

Under the $3.45 billion Project Wedgetail, next generation Boeing 737 aircraft are being modified to form the cornerstone of Australia’s air and maritime surveillance, and early warning and detection capability well into this century.

The aircraft remain under budget and on track to enter service in 2007.
