THE 25th annual HMAS Penguin Gate-to-Gate Fun Run and Power Walk was another success with more that 150 competitors lining up at the start.

A large number of competitors turned out to take the challenge of the 5km course, which incorporated panoramic views and an undulating route around Penguin and the Middle Head area.

The race was won by Sapper Mathew Jeffery who completed the course in a fast time of 17min 46sec, followed closely by Leading Seaman Wayne Hale and Corporal Wayne Heath.

Sergeant Rob Combe proved to the younger competitors that age was no limitation, finishing a very respectable fourth place.

The first female, Tracy Spindler, recorded a time of 20:01, not far behind the first male competitors. Flying Officer Cherie-Ann Bourghouts and Midshipman Danielle Hale followed her.

The event trialed a new system of electronic registration that made the collation of the event’s data more efficient and proved very successful. The event was well supported by all three services and congratulations to all those personnel who competed on the day making the race a success.
