RAAF Tindal Base Commander Group Captain Corrie Metz and Flight Lieutenant Mick Perry, of No. 75 Squadron, with staff and students from Katherine High School’s Intensive Learning Unit. The school group toured a number of areas on the base, including the firefighting section and the Military Working Dogs’ section. Judging by the smiles, the highlight of the day was a close-up look at an F/A-18. Wing Commander John Newman, Regional Manager CSI Central and Northern NSW, is used to receiving visitors at RAAF Base Williamtown but didn’t know what to expect when his boss advised he would be dropping by at short notice. Brigadier Mike Swan, Director General Regions and Bases, CSIG, after several short executive meetings, attended an afternoon tea where WGCDR Newman intended to host a “meet the masses” function for the Brigadier. Attention quickly turned to WGCDR Newman, to his surprise, as BRIG Swan presented him with the First Clasp to his Defence Force Service medal for 20 years of service.
