Lieutenant Jacob Antunovich is the 2003 winner of the Qualified
Flight Instructor of the Year award.
The annual award is presented to the No. 2 Flying Training School
instructor who has provided an outstanding contribution to pilot
training.
FLTLT Antunovich received an engraved pewter goblet from Doug
Burton, president of the ex-World War II Flying Instructors Association
that sponsors the award.
His name will also be added to a 2FTS honour board that records
all award winners since its inception in 1978.
FLTLT Antunovich said he was honoured to receive the award. He
found the working environment at 2FTS enjoyable and felt personally
rewarded seeing student pilots graduate and begin operational
careers in the Air Force.
He graduated from 173 Pilots course and began his first tour with
No. 11 Squadron in June 1998.
He hopes to return to No. 292 Squadron as an instructor later
in 2004.
The QFI of the Year award recognises an instructors performance
in technical ability, flying competence and contribution to instructional
life at 2FTS.
Deciding the winner of the award is based on a combination of
input from 2FTS executive, staff and students.
