MEMBERS
from the Aerospace Centre in Canberra are going on the road to
visit Air Force bases around Australia to give a series of presentations
on the fundamentals of aerospace power and the development of
strategic air power doctrine.
The presentations, conducted in an open forum for all Defence
members, aim to improve the understanding of air power issues
and how they apply to our everyday business.
The teams will explain the mission of the Aerospace Centre, and
how anyone within the Defence community can get involved with
what it does.
The Air Force has long been acknowledged as an exemplary force,
but its place in the larger national security scenario and the
capabilities it brings to the broader security imperatives are
not clearly demonstrated or explained to the force itself, other
services and the community at large.
The reason for the existence of the Air Force as an entity is
embedded in its doctrine. We, the custodians of the fundamental
doctrine of the Air Force, have to ensure that it is handed over
to tomorrow’s generation in good order.
By virtue of their inherent characteristics, air forces are dynamic
and evolving at all times.
The RAAF has matured through this process of evolution, which
demands constant attention to the changes taking place. It is
with this view that the presentations will show how Air Force
members can get involved with the development of our doctrine
and help guide its direction by taking ownership of it.
While our doctrine describes what air power can do, and why air
power might be preferable to other forms of combat power, it also
helps us to understand our profession so we can improve the way
we do business.
Keep an eye out in your base’s routine orders and notices to find
out when the Aerospace Centre will be visiting.
The next base visit will be at Townsville on November 24-25.
