Richmond project approved

A $35 MILLION Reinvestment Project at RAAF Base Richmond has been approved by Federal Parliament.

The Reinvestment Project includes office and working accommodation, industrial facilities for aircraft maintenance, personnel support facilities and the upgrade of engineering services.

Construction is scheduled to start by mid-2004 and be completed by December 2006.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Fran Bailey said the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works had recommended the project proceed in its report, tabled in Parliament on October 15.

“The aim of the Reinvestment Project is to ensure that RAAF Base Richmond delivers the necessary operational capability for Defence, as well as to address critical aspects in working and training accommodation, and engineering services,” Mrs Bailey said.

Member for Macquarie Kerry Bartlett said personnel “will enjoy the benefits of improved facilities which will ensure important capabilities at the base are maintained”.
