AIR Force Cadets from No. 217 (Shire of Redland) Squadron have celebrated 15 years of serving the Redland Shire, located some 30km from the Queensland capital, Brisbane.

Recently the squadron celebrated with a formal dinner and trooped the Squadron Banner. Officer Commanding No. 82 Wing based at RAAF Base Amberley Group Captain Kym Osley reviewed the parade.

One of the squadron’s founding members 15 years ago was Wing Commander Dave Godfrey, who, during his lengthy career in the Air Force, flew the F-111 when it first came to Australia.

To symbolise the squadron’s connection to the F-111, GPCAPT Osley was also the guest of honour for the weekend events.

To commemorate the 15th anniversary GPCAPT Osley presented the squadron with a framed print of the F-111 on behalf of 82WG.

President of the squadron mess Cadet Under Officer Paul Cleminson accepted the gift on behalf of the squadron.

The Air Force Cadets is the Redland shire’s largest Australian Defence Force Cadet unit with more than parading. In its short life, the squadron has achieved many milestones and faces the future in a strong position to help the youth of the Redlands achieve their dreams of one day joining the Air Force.
