AAFC AIR Force Cadets from the Illawarra and Canberra regions recently
enjoyed a short camp at RAAF Base Richmond as guests of the Air
Lift Group.
Put together by staff from the Air Force Cadets newest squadron,
No. 338 Squadron AAFC - Illawarra, the camp was a means of introducing
cadets to Air Force life at a major base and to foster an active
interest in aviation.
The camp was an immense success. Highlights for the cadets were
the airmans leadership reaction course, meals at the Airmans
Mess, the fire section including a tour of the flight line, and
a two-hour flight on a No. 36 Squadron C-130H training sortie over
the Sydney basin.
The stay also included a variety of drill and ceremonial training.
Comments from two of the Wollongong-based cadets included: The
camp was one of the best times of my life, There were
non-stop activities (Cadet Brendon Carey age 15), and, The
Fire Brigade was very interesting, and I liked the tasty
food (Cadet Craig Motbey age 16).
The Air Lift Group, under the command of Air Commodore Greg Evans,
was very accommodating in helping foster the values of Defence Force
Cadet organisation.
