Williams shows its will for Legacy

By WOFF Nelson Rapp

VOLUNTEERS from RAAF Base Williams have gone beyond the call to raise a staggering $4750 from selling badges and collecting donations in support of Legacy.

This was more than 30 per cent of the total collected by Legacy in western Victoria.

“The overwhelming support by the staff at Laverton and Point Cook and the local community, by purchasing a badge or by making a donation, was greatly appreciated by the Legacy organisation,” a spokesperson from Legacy’s Melbourne branch said.

A morning tea was held at the Williams’ Sergeants’ Mess where the Base Commander, RAAF Williams, Wing Commander Steve Edwards presented a cheque to the President of Legacy (Victoria), David Ford.

In appreciation, Mr Ford presented a plaque to the Base for the members’ outstanding efforts and said that he looked forward to similar support next year.

Special mention was made to the RAAF Base Williams volunteers who dedicated their time and effort, which involved attending the local railway stations (Laverton, Aircraft and Werribee), local shopping centres (Altona Central and Werribee Plaza) selling badges and collecting donations from the local community.

In addition, volunteers were involved in selling Legacy badges and collecting donations from staff at RAAF Base Williams.

As mentioned by a few of the volunteers, it was extremely impressive the amount of children at train stations and shopping centres who eagerly donated part of their lunch money or pocket money to this cause.
