RAAF
Base Williamtown recently opened a new Base Induction Centre following
the completion of more than a year of infrastructure works and process
development for the main base entrance.
Williamtown Base Commander Wing Commander Ian Farnsworth, Regional
Manager CSIC CNNSW Wing Commander John Newman and Regional OH&S
Manager CSIC CNNSW Joe Duffy officiated at the ceremony.
WGCDR Farnsworth said the new facility provides for enhanced security
and compliance with OH&S legislation.
All visitors to the base will now be shown a three-minute
video, highlighting the specific safety hazards and security on
the base.
Incorporated into the induction centre is a redesigned pass
office, which improves public access and eases the congestion we
used to suffer whenever more than a couple of visitors arrived at
a time, he said.
The new centre has been busy since its opening with more than 40
people a day viewing the video and receiving a six-month induction
pass after acknowledging they understand the safety and security
requirements.
The Base Induction Centre is the first Air Force facility of this
kind specifically geared to address these issues.
The centre is an initiative of the Regional Occupational Health
& Safety Officer, Joe Duffy, who has ensured that RAAF Base
Williamtown has induction standards equivalent to commercial industry.
Joe Duffy was awarded an Australia Medallion for his efforts to
improve safety standards at Williamtown, but has since opted for
a rural lifestyle and retired to a property near Tamworth.
