THE
Air Forces longest continuously-serving transport squadron
and the second largest flying squadron will mark a proud 60-year
history with birthday parties and a freedom of entry during October-November.
The history of No.38 Squadron dating back to September 15, 1943,
will be celebrated with a 60th birthday party at RAAF Base Amberley
on October 3, followed by a freedom of entry parade in Sydney
on November 2.
The Squadron also held a dining-in night during its most recent
operation in the Solomon Islands.
During the past 60 years, 38SQN has operated the Lockheed Hudson
MkIV, the Douglas Dakota C-47 and the
De Havilland DHC-4 Caribou. Operations have encompassed Papua
New Guinea, Indonesia, New Zealand, India/Pakistan, Vietnam, Germany,
Japan, Singapore, Malaya, East Timor and Solomon Islands.
