Force hosted the annual South East Queensland interservice touch
football competition at RAAF Base Amberley and sent the visitors
home with not much to boast about.
Of the five matches contested, Air Force teams shut out Army in
all games except one.
The action began with Air Force womens team downing Army
5-2.
Air Force over-40s took it to Army at the same time, winning 8-1.
The next games saw the over-30s and the over-35s in action.
Led by RAAF Base Amberley Touch Association president Sergeant
Tony Keehn, Air Force over-35s won 6-2.
Down one try to five, Air Force over-30s came storming home, forcing
extra time when eight-all on the siren.
The rules of the competition mean that at the re-start, both teams
shed one player, until the next siren or the first points being
scored to win.
Strong defence from both sides saw the next two periods go scoreless
until there were only three players on each side.
Air Force capitalised on the tiring defence and scuttled over
for the winning try.
In the mens open game, Air Force kept pace with Army, trailing
four tries to five at half-time.
In a blow-for-blow encounter, Air Force kept hitting back with
the scoreline reaching six tries to seven.
After defending stoutly, Air Force regained possession and crossed
the line with only seconds remaining, only to be denied the points
with a fingertip touch to the shirt being called.
