New Hawks for Royal Air Force

THE RAF will buy 20 Hawk 128 aircraft from BAE Systems to replace the current fleet of Hawk T1 aircraft used for advanced jet training for RAF and Fleet Air Arm pilots, the British Ministry of Defence has announced.

Options for a further 24 aircraft are also being negotiated.

The value of the complete package of 44 aircraft would be worth some £800 million ($A1.2 billion).

The Hawk 128 aircraft should enter service in 2008.
