New blue gets the green light

ALL Permanent Air Force and Reserve personnel will be required to change over to the new Air Force blue uniform by July 1 next year when the blue/grey issue becomes obsolete.

Members who have not acquired or been issued with the new uniform should arrange this as soon as possible to avoid a rush on clothing stores.

CAF Air Marshal Angus Houston has directed that members serving in Tindal, Darwin and Townsville will not be required to purchase the 1A uniform – comprising custom-fit tunic and trousers – during their tour of duty in those locations, with the exception of personnel required to undertake ceremonial or representational duties in other regions.

All other members serving in non-tropical areas will be expected to acquire the 1A uniform by mid next year.

For more information on standards of dress, refer to DI (AF) AAP 5135.003 (Manual of Dress).

Members on Standby Reserve who have served less than 12 months in the Active Reserve, Special Reserve or Reserve Staff Group are not entitled to exchange clothing items. However, Standby Reserve members who will have not served their required 12 months before July 1, 2004, will be entitled to exchange old blue/grey items to ensure the changeover is successful.

The decision took effect on August 4. Following these issues, normal clothing entitlements will apply.
