Conditions of service

CONDITIONS of service for Operation Anode list the operation as non-warlike and provide for a tax-free allowance as part of the entitlements for ADF personnel serving in the Solomon Islands.

Under the conditions of service, members serving as part of Op Anode will receive a tax-free deployment allowance of $55.50 a day.

The deployment allowance is the only officially tax-exempt portion of members’ income.

As with members serving in East Timor, personnel deployed to the Solomon Islands for 91 days or more are eligible to claim a section 23AG tax exemption at the end of the financial year.

Other entitlements for members under the conditions of service released by DPE include compensation and rehabilitation under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act and additional recreation and pre-embarkation leave before deployment for those deployed for more than six months.

Mechanisms have also been put in place to provide support for families.
