FAMILIES
and friends of South Australian-based Defence personnel who served
in the Middle East have been thanked at a special reception hosted
by the State Government.
Premier Mike Rann and parliamentary colleagues took the opportunity
to thank families for their support at the event designed to officially
welcome home SA-based personnel.
More than 1000 people attended the function at the Adelaide Convention
Centre, which also honoured those still serving in the Middle East.
Premier Rann said the reception was the first opportunity for South
Australians to acknowledge the bravery and heroism shown by local
Defence personnel.
The reception featured the South Australian Detachment of the Royal
Australian Navy Band, the States Primary School Choir and
entertainment for the children, including face-painting, popcorn
and helium balloons.
Sergeant Paul Bonnar said it was great for personnel to receive
recognition for their contribution from the South Australian community.
It is also fantastic to have our family here and have them
recognised as well, he said.
Corina Norman, wife of Flight Sergeant Jeff Norman, agreed it was
a wonderful celebration.
It is a deserved thank you to the guys and girls that went
away, she said.
It was wonderful that the politicians took the time to thank
family and friends for their support. Often it is the families that
do it the hardest.
