PT school on the attack

By CPO Marty Karow

THREE combined Service running teams from HMAS Cerberus featured prominently in the Defence Lake Attack Relay held at Albert Park in Melbourne recently.

The Defence Lake Attack Relay, formally known as the Log Command Relay, consisted of teams with three runners, each runner completing a one lap (5km) sprint around the picturesque Albert Park Lake.

With an advanced PTI course and a basic PTI course currently being conducted at the ADF Physical Training School, there was no shortage of volunteers to compete and three teams were entered.

In the open category, the team of Seaman Alex Minney, Sergeant Gavin Wickham and SGT Rob Combe led from start to finish to record an overall time of 52.10 min.

The second team home was also from the ADF PT School. The basic PTI course team of PT qualifiers, Ray Loveridge, David Walsh and James Hood finished only 30 seconds behind the Advanced PTI Course team.

The HMAS Cerberus mixed team of Leading Seaman Stuart Rowe (Advanced PTI Course), Private Amy Hall (ADF Dental School) and SGT Dave Edelman (Advanced PTI Course) dominated a quality field and after a great first lap by LS Rowe, finished 6th overall, but were awarded first mixed team home.

The ADF and in particular the ADF Physical Training School were positively promoted during the presentation ceremony.

The teams would like to pass on their appreciation for the support they received from HMAS Cerberus Sport & Recreation and the ADF PT School. Money raised from entries for the event went to three worthwhile charities.
