Seeking gifts is just not the ticket

AIR Force members are advised not to seek tickets to sporting events.

This follows a statement from Inspector-General Claude Neumann that the Defence Department had received complaints about Defence members soliciting tickets to sporting events and about senior leaders accepting invitations to corporate boxes at events.

“The Code of Conduct with Industry says, among other things, that for its part Defence requires its employees not to solicit or accept remuneration or any other benefit from organisations seeking or having an official relationship with Defence,” Mr Neumann said.

The policy document relating to the protocols and ethics of accepting tickets to sporting events is DI(G) PERS 25-6 – Conflict of Interest and Offers of Gift and Hospitality.

It should be consulted if any doubt exists about the probity of accepting gifts and hospitality.

Other guidance can be found in DI(G) PERS 25-3 – Disclosure of Interests of Members of the ADF, and DI(G) ADMIN 08-1 – Public Comment and Dissemination of Information by Defence Members.
