MEMBERS
of Joint Logistics Unit (NQ) celebrated their first birthday in
formal fashion with a parade in Townsville on July 4.
The unit had a busy first year, supporting operations in Bougainville,
East Timor and the Middle East, in addition to its regular customer
base.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel David Stevens said the strength
of the unit flowed from its people.
The demand placed on them is always high, yet when they are
asked to do extra, they respond positively and without hesitation,
he said.
They are proud of the support they provide and they should
be.
In a very short time they have gained a sound reputation for
quality logistic support.
JLU(NQ) originated from 10 Force Support Battallion when, on October
31, 2000, the base logistics function was extracted and Northern
Logistics Group Townsville (NLG-T) was formed.
On December 1, 2001, the Air Force element of warehousing and distribution
at RAAF Base Townsville was incorporated into NLG-T. It was then
realised that the logistic support needs of north Queensland were
unique to the area and too large for a single organisation headquartered
in Brisbane.
JLU(NQ) was formed on July 1, 2002, as part of Joint Logistics Command,
a branch of the Defence Materiel Organisation.
