AIR Force Reserve members of No. 25 (City of Perth) Squadron tested their fire fighting, first aid, logic and problem-solving skills at the recent biannual Squadron Military Skills Challenge.

“Air Force Reserve members need to stay competent and current in a number of core skills and this competition is a challenging and fun way to test their skills against each other,” said 25SQN Commanding Officer Squadron Leader Nick Bricknell.

“While all members of the squadron undertake formal annual re-qualification in weapons, first aid, and fire fighting, this team challenge will be a more informal and fun way for them to test themselves and each other in ‘real’ scenarios.”

The day consisted of a number of different activities.

The squadron was divided into teams to foster a competitive spirit with the “Exceptional Seven” being awarded the prized CO’s Boot trophy for 2003. Members of the winning team included Squadron Leader Mike Barret, Flight Lieutenant Peter Komowski. Sergeant Allan Barnard, Flight Sergeant Glen Whitting, Corporal Steve Martyn, Sergeant Derek Bannister and Leading Aircraftman Greg Trainer.

Memorable moments included Sergeant Owen Webb’s award-winning performance as a battle casualty.
