Australia’s king of jazz, James Morrison, joined forces with the Big Band of the Air Command Band recently to perform for 200 selected primary school music students.

The students were attending a State junior music camp held by the NSW Department of Education at Stanwell Park just south of Sydney.

It was the first time James Morrison has played with the band and the members were “blown away” by his extraordinary trumpet solos. The students were thrilled with the one-hour concert as it was the first time they had ever heard a professional jazz big band, let alone James Morrison, and yelled for more as the last song was announced.
This is the second year that the Big Band has played for the State music camp.

The Big Band is also scheduled to perform for the NSW Senior School Music Camp in July.

These concerts are a great opportunity for the band to perform for aspiring young musicians and showcase the talented members of the Air Command Band.

The Big Band is one of only a couple of full-time jazz big bands in Australia and is highly regarded in professional music circles.
