Three
members of No. 27 (City of Townsville) Squadron have been awarded
Centenary of Federation Medals.
They are Flight Lieutenant Wayne Lord, Flight Sergeant Terry Crosby
and Flight Sergeant Lloyd Tonkin. Federal Member for Herbert Peter
Lindsay presented them with their medals on May 10.
They trio were nominated for their many years of dedicated service
to the ADF and the civil community.
Eighty-three Centenary of Federation Medals were awarded to north
Queensland residents. Considering that Townsville and the surrounding
area has a population of some 200,000 residents, it is a significant
achievement for three of 27SQNs members to receive the honour.

and has served continuously with 27SQN. During the Centenary of
Federation year he organised the squadrons Freedom of the
City March, which also marked its 20th birthday. He is a Sergeant
in the Queensland Police Service.
FSGT Crosby enlisted in the Air Force in 1979, discharged in 2000,
then joined 27SQN. He participated in a 1993 Medevac for the Australian
Government in Bandung, Indonesia, and the recent Bougainville crisis.
He is employed by the Queensland Ambulance Service as a Paramedic
(Advanced Care) and is studying the Intensive Care Program.
FSGT Tonkin enlisted in the Air Force as a Medical Assistant in
1981, discharged in 1999 and joined 27SQN the same year. A paramedic
with the Queensland Ambulance Service, he led the way for paramedics
in the Air Force. His awards include the Defence Force Service Medal
(1996), Nursing Service Cross (1999) and AASM for Timor deployment
