Jeep worth much

IT’S little more than a plastic child’s jeep mounted on a wooden base.

It was a gift to Warrant Officer Colin O’Neill during his time in the MEAO – but it cost him money.

After being promoted in the field, WOFF O’Neill was named the custodian of the jeep by his US counterparts.

He had to guarantee not to lose it for a month, otherwise his US rank equivalents would be shouted a round. During the month as custodian he had to present the trophy at 1900 every night.

“Problem was my own people stole the jeep,” WOFF O’Neill said.

Although the jeep – which he decorated with Air Force roundels – cost him a few rounds, it was worth it. “To be promoted while on operations makes it all that little more special,” he said.
