F-111s mark 30 years’ service

A MEMORIAL service, presentations, a family day and buffet dinner are centrepiece events to mark 30 years of F-111 operations.

No. 82 Wing at RAAF Base Amberley will host the events on Sunday, June 1.

The day will start with a memorial service at 9.30am in the Memorial Park at the base front gate. World War II Squadron Associations will attend the service and aircrew lost in F-111 accidents will also be remembered.

There will be a colour party and guard from Nos 1 and 6 Squadron. A flypast by an ex-6SQN Hudson and an F-111 is planned.

Following the service, the Squadron Associations will present their annual awards to selected officers, airmen and airwomen of 82WG.

The family day in 1SQN hangar and surrounding areas will be held from noon-3.30pm.
Present and past operational aircraft will be on display, and ground displays will showcase the day-to-day maintenance activities on F-111s. Other base units such as Fire and Rescue and the Airfield Defence Guard will also provide displays.

If the weather is suitable, an F-111, Caribou, PC9 and Hudson will conduct an airborne handling display.

A buffet dinner for past and present members of 82WG, 1SQN, 6SQN, 482SQN, 3AD and 501WG will be served in the 6SQN hangar at 6pm.

The Air Command Band will provide entertainment.
