AIRCRAFTMAN Michael Davis can boast the Prime Minister and Chief of Defence Force as an audience and is now looking further afield to pursue his guitar and song-writing talents.

His inspiration following a tour of duty to the Middle East has overflowed, with his song Homeward Bound striking a chord with many.

Immensely proud of what he has achieved, the supplier from 382 Expeditionary Combat Support Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley says that serving his country has been one of his greatest highlights since joining the Air Force on March 19, last year.

“In everything I write there is a message and I guess Tour of Duty (an earlier song) said the right things as I had great feedback,” AC Davis told Air Force News.

“My other great highlight is that people got to hear from an Airman’s point of view on the way he feels about what we have done.

“I would like to try my hand at playing in the RAAF Band one day, but all good things come too those who wait. For now I will keep doing what I am doing and serving my country and fellow workmates as best I can.”

He says the words to his latest song Homeward Bound are also receiving acclaim considering he hated to write at school.

“I haven’t written too many songs but I must admit I do enjoy writing now.

“I played at the MEAO on Anzac Day and I’ve also talked people into sing-along nights,” he said.
CDF General Peter Cosgrove signed his guitar, while Prime Minister John Howard also proved a appreciative audience.

“I hope the RAAF and all other Defence establishments will benefit from what we have done here and for what I’ve written I also hope that people can see we are just ordinary people doing an extraordinary job.”
