A significant milestone was achieved for Air Lift Group (ALG) with the introduction of the new C-130H full flight simulator into training at RAAF Base Richmond on March 3.

Representing a first for ALG, the C-130H simulator has joined the Boeing 707 and C-130J simulators in receiving the highest level of accreditation for full flight simulation in the world.

Each of the three simulators is the first of its type to receive recognition to this level, reflecting the high standards required by the Air Force.

The C-130H simulator provides crews with realistic training in electronic warfare through synthetic tactical scenarios, providing a more effective and efficient training platform than the real aircraft.

Used in conjunction with a visual database of the Blue Mountains, specifically designed for Air Force, the program will allow future crews to train in simulated hostile air environments on a routine basis.

“These simulators are the most significant improvement made to our training system for pilots of heavy aircraft since World War II,” said Air Commodore Greg Evans, Commander ALG.

“They remove much of the risk inherent in flying training operations, provide a higher standard of training, reduce fatigue on the fleet, and free up the fleet for operational tasking.

“Owning the simulator is like owning an extra Hercules aircraft, and on top of that the training is done more effectively than it ever could be in the past. It gives the taxpayers superb value for the money invested, and will continue to do so for decades to come.”

In line with the support strategy already in place for the other two ALG simulators, in-service management and support of the C-130H simulator has been contracted to CAE Australia Pty Ltd.
