Tax advice for service overseas

The Defence Tax Management Office (DTMO) has prepared Bougainville and Solomon Islands Tax Supplements based on advice from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Defence Personnel Executive.

The purpose of the supplements is to assist ADF members who have served, are serving, or will be serving in the two countries to identify taxation exemptions available to them.

These supplements should be used in conjunction with the current Australian Taxation Office TaxPack and related publications.

They are a general guide only and are not able to be used as a legal authority in the event of any dispute between a Defence employee and the ATO.

An electronic version of the supplements and other tax supplements for other countries is available at http://defweb.cbr.defence.gov.au/ cfo/tax/adf

The DTMO provides an e-mail and telephone hotline service to ADF members with queries relating specifically to the supplements.

Inquiries can be forwarded to Taxation.Management@defence.gov.au. An electronic copy of the supplements can also be obtained using this e-mail address. If you do not have access to e-mail, contact DTMO on freecall 1800 806 053. DTMO does not provide personal taxation advice. If employees require advice on personal taxation matters they should contact their tax adviser.
