In brief

Better living

MORE than a million dollars will be spent to upgrade the heritage-listed living-in accommodation (LIA) at RAAF Base Darwin.

The LIA blocks were constructed in the 1940s and are listed on the Register of the National Estate.

The $1.025 million refurbishment works will include new carpets, blinds and paintwork, along with skylights and upgrades to bathrooms and kitchenettes. The Australian Heritage Commission has provided advice on the refurbishment.

Legal move

The Defence Legal Service (TDLS) will move its central office from Russell to the R.G. Casey building at Barton in Canberra on May 16.

The move will provide adequate space and work stations for all staff and will enable TDLS to be nearer key agencies such as the Attorney-Generals Department and the Australian Government Solicitor.

TDLS will take measures to ensure customer focus is maintained during and after the move.
