Force personnel involved with the United Nations Operation in
Somalia (UNOSOM) 1992-1994 are invited to take part in a 10th
anniversary reunion on Anzac Day in Sydney.
The contingent will march with the UN and peacekeeping forces
or, if numbers warrant, as a separate grouping under this banner
Thirty personnel from the three services deployed to Mogadishu,
Somalia, in late October and early November 1992. This unit was
Australias contribution to UNOSOM 1 and was code-named Operation
Iguana.
The Australian Movement Control Group, or movers,
worked with UN military and civil authorities and coordinated
Somalias air and sea operations.
Air Force units also provided air support to a deployment of 1RAR
Battalion members to Baidoa for four months from January 1993.
