THANKING staff from No. 1 Air Terminal Squadron for their assistance with Operation Bastille preparations was just one of the reasons Commanding Officer of No. 396 Combat Support Wing Group Captain Greg Fitzgerald visited RAAF Base Townsville recently.

GPCAPT Fitzgerald wanted to pay a personal visit to 1ATS members to acknowledge the many hours of work they put in to load 5th Aviation Regiment Chinook helicopters for Operation Bastille.

While he was at the base, GPCAPT Fitzgerald – whose command of 396CSW includes RAAF Base Darwin and Townsville, No. 324 Combat Support Squadron at RMAR Butterworth and the bare bases at Curtin, Learmonth and Scherger – caught up with as many of the staff as possible.

He toured the Security Police, Air Movements and Road Movements sections as well as the Air Operations Communications Centre and the Sergeants’ Mess.
