Anzac clash pays tribute to the ADF

THE AFL and the Sydney Swans will stage a tribute to the Defence Force and Emergency Service personnel when they hold the first-ever Anzac Day clash in Sydney.

The Sydney Swans will take on the Melbourne Demons on Friday, April 25, in a twilight match at the SCG.

The Australian Defence Force has been invited to play the curtain-raiser game against a combined team from the Australian Federal Police, NSW Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigades.

The organisations were invited to compete for the “AFL Services Challenge Cup” as a simple way of recognising their service to country and the community.

“We hope that this will become an annual tradition in Sydney,” AFL chief executive officer Wayne Jackson said.

“Anzac Day holds a special place in the hearts of most Australians and we are pleased to be working with the Australian Defence Force to present this game,” he said.

The Australian Defence Force team was selected at the national carnival, played in Canberra late last month.

There is a special ticket offer for Defence personnel and their families of $11.50 per adult and $23 per family (two adults and two children) including booking fees. This represents a discount of up to 50 per cent on standard prices.
To take advantage of this special offer call Ticketek on (02) 9266 4800 or visit your nearest Ticketek outlet.
