F-111 anniversary
To commemorate 30 years of service for the F-111s, activities are planned at RAAF Base Amberley on June 1. They are:

  • Memorial Service at the front gate Memorial Park, 9am-10.30am.
  • WWII Squadrons Associations presentations annual award ceremony in recognition of outstanding performance by Amberley-based personnel, 11am-1pm.
  • Family afternoon, noon-3.30pm: Ground and static displays and F-111 handling display to showcase F-111 maintenance and flying operations. Museum aircraft, rescue and firefighting and military working dogs on display. RAAF Band, food, drink and children’s rides.
  • Buffet dinner, 6pm-midnight: All ranks buffet dinner in the 6 Squadron hangar for invited guests, past and present F-111 members. Numbers are limited.

    Youth scholarships

    CHILDREN of ADF personnel, including reservists, are eligible to apply for Defence/AFS Scholarships in 2003.

    Applicants must be in Years 9-12. Expressions of interest are due by April 25. The fully-paid scholarships are provided by Defence in partnership with AFS Intercultural Programs. To find out more visit the education section of the DCO web site at www.dco.dod.gov.au or phone 1300 131 736.

    Penang reunion

    STUDENTS, teachers and parents who attended RAAF School Penang from 1958-1988 are invited to a reunion on May 31 at the Albert Park Function Centre in Melbourne. The cost is $45 a person.     Heritage awards

    ENTRIES for the 2003 RAAF Annual Heritage Awards close on April 29. Awards are given in three categories: art, literature and photography. First prizes range from $5000 in the literature category to $1500 in the photographic section. Entries must relate to a RAAF unit, aircraft, person, event or era, which gives a broad scope for subject matter. Entries depicting recent events would be welcome.     RAAF Central Band

    April 11: The Ceremonial Band will perform at the Freedom of City of Sale ceremony at 10.30am and the Williams Clarinet Quartet will play at a civic reception at Sale Civic Centre to mark RAAF Base East Sale’s 60th anniversary.
    April 12: The Concert Band will provide entertainment at the East Sale Open Day Concert at 11am, with Force 10 to perform at the East Sale reunion dinner at the base from 7pm-11pm.
    April 13: The Ceremonial Band will play at an air show at West Sale Aerodrome at 11am.
    April 16: The Ceremonial Band will perform at the 1RTU graduation at RAAF Base Edinburgh at 9am.
    April 23: Air Power Brass will perform at the 88th anniversary of Anzac Day luncheon at the Victorian Arts Centre at 12.15pm.
    April 25: The Ceremonial Band will feature at the Anzac Day march in Melbourne at 9am, and the Concert Band at the AFL Anzac Day fixture at the MCG at 12.55pm.

    Air Command Band

    April 16: The Parade Band will provide entertainment at the opening of the Royal Easter Show at Homebush, Sydney, at 2pm.
    April 25: The Parade Band will feature at the Sydney Anzac Day dawn service at 4.30am and the march at 9am. Inquiries to (02) 4587 1122.
