RAAF
Base Edinburghs redevelopment has really raised the roof.
Four
100-tonne cranes simultaneously lifted roofing into place to form
the new ARDU aircraft flightline shelters on March 12.
Other
cranes were used to position the support columns under the roof.
The
project was assembled in three sections on the ground before being
raised into position by the cranes, 7m above ground.
The
middle roofing span weighed 48 tonnes and the outer spans 42 tonnes
each.
The
project comprised 144.32 tonnes of structural steelwork and 14.16
tonnes of purlins. It took seven hours to raise the entire structure.
Hansen
and Yunckens on-site manager, Richard Main, said, The
support structure was a builders dream to position. Everything
slipped into place without requiring any adjustments.
Much
of the steelwork was trial fitted at a factory to ensure an accurate
fit.
The
112m-long shelter will provide much-needed protection for ARDU
aircraft from the extremes of South Australian weather.
