AIR
Force Rugby League is seeking service and Defence civilian personnel
from Canberra that would be interested in assisting with running
the sport within the Air Force.
Up
until recently, rugby league in the Air Force has lacked a formalised
structure, but a committee has recently been formed to ensure
the viability of the sport within the service.
Air
Commodore Geoff Shepherd has volunteered his services as the president
of Air Force Rugby League.
Chief
of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston has also lent support,
indicating recently that Air Force would host the national championships
in 2004.
An
Air Force rugby league side competed as a separate entity for
the first time at this years Combined Services Australian
Rugby League (CASRL) National Carnival in Canberra.
Although
it failed to win a match, several Air Force players shone and
were selected in the CASRL team that intends to tour Great Britain
later this year.
