East Sale celebrates

By LACW Simone Liebelt

SIXTY years of history and memories will be the focus of the anniversary celebrations of RAAF Base East Sale from April 11-13.

Festivities will begin with a colourful show of pride and tradition, when the base exercises its right to the Freedom of the City of Sale on April 11, featuring a parade and ceremony in the main street.

The base will open its doors at 10am on April 12, offering the public the chance to join in the anniversary celebrations. Aircraft static displays, tours, entertainment, and the many sights and sounds – including the Roulettes – will delight the crowd throughout the day.

For past and present members of RAAF Base East Sale, the highlight will be the reunion hangar party on April 12 at 6.30pm, an opportunity for them to reminisce.

The RAAF Central Band will provide entertainment, with a buffet dinner and drinks included in the cost of $60 a person.

To book tickets, contact Wing Commander Owen Gardner on (03) 5146 6447 before April 1.

The final day of the anniversary event, in cooperation with the Wellington Shire Council, will be an air show at the West Sale airfield on April 13 from 9.30am, featuring aerial displays from a range of Air Force and civilian aircraft.
