THE
ADF Running and Athletics Association officially launched the Defence
Athletics Club (DAC) in Townsville in conjunction with Athletics
North Queensland (ANQ) late last year.
Association President Captain Frank Kresse said the establishment
of the DAC was a significant step forward for Defence and for Australian
athletics in general.
The DAC has created for the first time a national approach
to athletics by Athletics Australia that overcomes a long-standing
deficiency for our Defence athletes, CAPT Kresse said.
We now have a national-based club which ADF members and Defence
civilians can join from anywhere in Australia and be affiliated
with Athletics Australia.
Once registered with the DAC, an athletes membership is recognised
anywhere in Australia and transportable whenever a person relocates
interstate.
It means that our athletes need only join the DAC to receive
all the benefits available to them through state athletics associations
and entitles athletes to compete for Defence in local, state and
national events, he added.
On hand for the launch was ANQ Development Officer Mike Griffin
and the associations local representative, Captain Nathan
Crowley.
ANQ will manage the registration process, providing members with
access to an extensive range of services, including comprehensive
insurance coverage, local administrative assistance and access to
sanctioned competitions, development squads and coaching clinics.
Similar services will be progressively established with other state
bodies.
A registration form is available from the associations secretary.
