AFDS open day

NO. 2 Airfield Defence Squadron will celebrate 20 years since its reformation with an open day at 2AFDS, Tarakan Road, RAAF Base Amberley, on Friday, March 21, from 10am-1pm. The event, which will feature demonstrations and displays, is open to current and former ADGs, ground defence officers and their families. 86SQN roll call

NO. 86 Squadron will mark the 60th anniversary of its formation at a final roll call for members in South Australia on Tuesday, March 18. A formal service, featuring a flypast by a Kittyhawk, will be held that morning, followed by a luncheon at the Gawler RSL. The Kittyhawk will also be on static display along with other 86SQN memorabilia.
A visit to local wineries, a sit-down evening dinner and a trip to local aircraft museums in and around Adelaide are also planned.

79SQN anniversary

Back to Point Cook

POINT Cook Primary School will celebrate 80 years of service to the Air Force and broader community with a Back To Point Cook reunion dinner for past students, teachers, parents and any others associated with the school on Thursday, March 27. Mess celebrates

THIS year marks the 40th anniversary of the formation of the East Sale Sergeants’ Mess. Present and past members are invited to attend a celebration dinner on Friday, July 25. Air Command Band

March 20: The Concert Band will perform at St Andrew’s Public Concert at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, from noon-1pm.

March 30: A bugler will play at the RAAF Association Church Service at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, at 10.30am. Inquiries to (02) 4587 1122 or aircommandband@defence.gov.au

RAAF Central Band

March 17: The Concert Band will perform at the Victorian Seniors’ Festival Concert, Fitzroy Gardens, Landsdowne St, Melbourne at noon.

March 23: The Ceremonial Band will feature at the Weerama Festival Street Parade in Watton Street, Werribee, Victoria. Inquiries to (03) 9256 2439.

Heritage awards


Entries are open for the 2003 RAAF Annual Heritage Awards in the categories of art, literature and photography. First prizes range from $5000 in the literature category to $1500 in the photographic section.

Entries must relate to a RAAF unit, aircraft, person, event or era. Entry forms are available from the Aerospace Centre, which can be contacted on (02) 6287 6256 or aerospacecentre@defence.gov.au

The closing date for entries is Tuesday, April 29.
