It
was a case of “good luck” and “return home
safely” as hundreds of Air Force personnel from different
corners of the country were farewelled ahead of their deployment
to the Middle East as part of Operation Bastille earlier
this month.

RAAF Base Richmond, family and friends bade fond farewell
to loved ones as aircrew and support personnel of three C-130
Hercules aircraft said goodbye. |

Hugs,
kisses, smiles and tears were plentiful.

It
was a similar story thousands of kilometres away at RAAF Base
Tindal as crowds farewelled the Air Force’s F/A-18 fighter
contingent. |

Chief
of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston, Chief of Defence
Force General Peter Cosgrove and Defence Minister Senator
Robert Hill joined the emotional gatherings to pay tribute
to the deploying personnel.
