Video tape slated:
I have had the opportunity to view a video tape on MSBS titled Military Sooper Quiz that was obviously intended to impart some important information to members.

I assume it was made in a bold attempt at modernising the portrayal of this information, but it failed in every other aspect of a professional and informative medium.

I initially felt as if I was watching an afternoon children’s quiz show, but upon reflection, even they are produced with more professionalism and relevance to their target audience.

Whatever information was attempted to be imparted was in vain and lost in the video’s overly distractive and idiotic format.
With reference to the target audience, it is an insult to the intelligence of any ADF member.

I am disgusted and repulsed that an organisation in charge of my future financial security has not only released a video of such poor quality and content, but has obviously wasted some of my invested money on this grossly sub-standard production.
In fact, it would be interesting for all fund members to know the exact cost of this wasted production and those interested should voice their concerns by accessing the complaints area of the military super web site.
Sergeant A. Godwin

I have watched the biggest joke and most insulting video presentation in my 25 years of service in the Air Force.
As a SNCO (currently DFRDB) I thought the video for members of the Military Super fund would increase my understanding of the MSBS fund to enable me to assist with any questions from my subordinates.

However, what I watched was something my five-year-old daughter’s kindergarten class would have found very comical.

The way in which this was presented makes a mockery of the intelligence of all serving members, also the presenters’ appearance and accompanying jewellery is an insult to the dress and bearing standards we are all required to maintain.

The quality of the presentation was, to say the least, very poor.
Who paid for this video: the ADF or the members of the fund. If it was the latter, will they be reimbursed for their loss?
Flight Sergeant Ross O’Brien

Official response:
Thank you for your feedback on the video. It was one in a series of four produced as part of the Board’s Communications Program for the Military Super Scheme. The three earlier videos, Introduction to the Scheme, Family Benefits and
Understanding Investments & the Operation of the Board, were well received by members and, in fact, won a Gold Communications Award at the 2002 Conference of Major Super Funds.

With this particular video we sought to add some humour to what is an important, but sometimes dry subject. It was pitched
at younger members who often see superannuation as something to be considered later in life, when in fact it is important to take an interest now in order to achieve an adequate standard of living in retirement.

We may have missed the mark with this one, which may not appeal to all members. However, it is encouraging that members are viewing the videos and taking the trouble to comment. We appreciate the feedback and will avoid this format in future.

Finally, the costs of producing the video did not come from the Military Super Fund. All costs relating to the video were paid out of administrative fees paid by the Department of Defence.
Brigadier Bob Brown
Military Super Board Trustee
and Chairman of the Communications Committee
