Radar pod contract

RAYTHEON Australia has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems (UK) to develop and produce 12 radar emulator pods (EMPOD) for the Air Force’s fleet of Hawk lead-in fighters.

The radar emulation capability will produce simulated aircraft and missile threats during military exercises conducted by both the Air Force and Navy.

Raytheon Australia’s technical solution will use the Raytheon Low Drag Electronics Pod with an augmented version of the AN/DPT-2B magnetron-based threat simulation system produced in the US.

Raytheon will significantly enhance the existing capabilities of the AN/DPT-2B payload by including an additional frequency band and the ability to automatically re-tune each specific magnetron to pre-programmed frequencies in-flight.

The ability to re-tune the emulator in flight gives the Air Force good value for flight and operational training time.
