$27m housing complex opened

THE opening of a $27 million housing complex in the heart of Darwin has provided a new option of inner-city apartment living for Northern Territory defence personnel and their families.

Minister for Defence Robert Hill officially opened Vantage Point, a landmark construction of three towers containing 95 apartments in Carey Street, on January 31.

The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) built the complex which includes 20 one-bedroom units, 20 two-bedroom units and 55 three-bedroom apartments.

Commanding ocean views are complemented by a gymnasium, swimming pool, two secure car parking spots for each tenant and extensive landscaping.

Client surveys conducted by DHA showed that a significant number of ADF members would prefer living in a high-rise apartment complex to a free-standing suburban house or townhouse accommodation.
