College
lucky not to be destroyed
THE
Australian Defence College (ADC) Weston Creek Campus experienced
a close call during the recent Canberra bushfire crisis.
Commander of the ADC Major General Jim Molan said that it was sheer
luck that the college was not burnt down during the firestorm that
swept through the area on January 18.
It was widely reported in the media that the college had in fact
been burnt to the ground, and considering the surrounding devastation,
this early report was understandable.
Ironically, one of the main reasons why the campus was saved was
due to the bushfires that raged in the ACT in Christmas 2001.
MAJGEN Molan said that during last years fire the immediate
forested area next to the campus precincts had been burnt and much
of the fuel had been consumed.
