EYES
turned to the skies in Canberra when an Air Force Hercules flew
two ceremonial flypasts over the national capital.
The flypasts marked the unveiling of No. 33 and No. 36 Squadron
commemorative plaques at two locations in Canberra on November
23 to celebrate 60 years since the squadrons were founded in
1942.
The 36SQN plaque was unveiled by Commanding Officer Wing Commander
John Samulski at the Air Force Memorial Grove on Majura Road.
The grove contains a number of plaques from Air Force units
once based in Canberra. 36SQN operated DC-3 Dakota aircraft
out of RAAF Base Fairbairn from 1955-58.
Later that day Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston
unveiled 33SQN and 36SQN plaques at the Australian War Memorial
Sculpture Garden.
On both occasions, a 36SQN C-130 Hercules flew low at 1000 feet
over parts of Canberra.
